Grace Davidson - Soprano
Grace began her musical life as a violinist studying at the junior guildhall London. She later gained a scholarship to study at The Royal Academy Of Music where she gained both a degree and a post graduate degree. Whilst at the Academy she won the Early music prize and the English song prize as well as being a finalist in The London Handel Competition. Having been in demand as a consort singer with all the Leading British groups, including The Monteverdi Choir, Ex Cathedra, Tenebrae, The Gabrieli Consort, Alamire, The Tallis Scholars and The cambridge singers. Grace is now a popular soloist, particularly specialising in Baroque and Renaissance music.
Grace is proud to be a regular member of The Sixteen/Harry Christophers whom she has worked with for over 10 years. She has made several recordings with Harry, both as a consort member and soloist and also features on all 3 of the Sacred Music series featured on BBC2. She is due to record Handel’s Gloria and Handel’s Neun Deutsche Arien for Harry Christophers on his Coro label.
Grace also sings on many film sound tracks. She is the soprano soloist on the recent Pirates of the Caribbean 4 with music by Hanz Zimmer.
Grace works regularly with the composer Eric Whitacre and features on both his albums recorded for Decca. She is also a featured soloist on composer Paul Mealors “A Tender light” released this year on the Decca label, accompanied by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Tenebrae.
In 2012 Grace will perform the solos for Phillipe Herreweghe in Bach’s Matthew Passion on a tour that will take her from Europe to America. She also tours to Canada, performing Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, Purcell. Monteverdi Vespers in Spain with Harry Christophers, a live recording of Faure’s Requiem (soprano soloist) with The LSO and Tenebrae, due for release on the LSO live label. Grace lives in London with her husband, conductor Nigel Short, and their two children.
